SPEAKING

Khadija is an award-winning leader and inspirational speaker with 16 years’ experience, whose warm and encouraging message is based on her own story of overcoming small and large obstacles.

She speaks confidently and frankly, exuding abundant energy and excitement. Khadija uses her story to inspire and motivate others to reach their goals and live the lives they always dream of. Khadija has faced many adversities in life such as war, homelessness, depression, female genital mutilation, abuse and domestic violence. Khadija is living proof that although life knocks everybody down at one point or another, it’s what you choose to do with those experiences that determines your future.

As a speaker, Khadija is an engaging storyteller who guides her audience through a journey of pain, survival, self-discovery, hope and strength. Khadija’s message is one of hope, truth, love and passion. She finds humour even in the most negative and traumatic experiences. Many attendees report crying and laughing at the same time, so no matter what age, background or walk of life Khadija teaches, inspires and motivates.

Khadija is known for being confident and frank, and for using her irrepressible energy and humour to lighten serious messages. KHADIJA IN ACTION

TedxCanberra – TED Talks

Khadija Gbla grew up caught between two definitions of what it means to be an “empowered woman.” While her Sierra Leonean mother thought that circumsizing her — and thus stifling her sexual urges — was the ultimate form of empowerment, her culture as a teenager in Australia told her that she deserved pleasure and that what happened to her was called “female genital mutilation.” In a candid and funny talk, she shares what it was like to make her way in a “clitoris-centric society,” and how she works to make sure other women don’t have to figure this out.
